The modern day woman often wears many colorful hats; she shuttles the duties of wife ,mom and teacher! She’s an entrepreneur, an employee, employer, care giver, cook, she’s a nurse, hairdresser, and everything on the home front just revolves around her. She is often overwhelmed and the hours in the day are never enough. I am a modern day woman and sometimes, it’s a struggle to get some personal things done. I have to deliberately shut out the things shouting at me for attention and get my “me” time.
The “Me time” refers to time taken just for yourself, it is time spent relaxing on one’s own as opposed to working or doing things for others. Yes, it’s that selfish few minutes or hours when you block out every chore, persons, struggles and demands just to focus on yourself and whatever brings you pleasure. It could be an hour in a week, or even 30 minutes of self pampering. Come on girl, put down all your colorful hats, and put your legs up for a while!
Sisters, today I’m giving you 7 reasons to be selfish! Why you must have a “me” time
1 – “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” This is a quote from Dr seuss, a renowned American writer. Of course, no one can be you, as there is only one ‘YOU’ uniquely designed for specific assignments in life. so if you wear yourself out fulfilling the many roles life demands of you without taking time off to recharge and refuel, your engine could get damaged!
You are the goose that lays the golden egg, if there is no goose, there can’t be golden eggs. Give attention to you. Spend some time to listen to “you’
2 – if you expire, life continues, life doesn’t expire with you. If you die before your time, the husband, the children, the money, the projects, the companies… Hey, even the church will go on, they will move on after you. The stress and demands placed on you may be overwhelming, but a ‘me’ time will help you relieve stress and free your mind of clutters. When you are relaxed you can do more and enjoy more life. Why die young? Think about it
3 – time was measured out to you for the fulfillment of your purpose / destiny, the reasons for life are not the many things we run after, don’t spend all day socializing, cooking, and even doing the seemingly important tasks of being a mom or wife (yes i said it! Super-mom, super-wife is over hyped), take out like 30 minutes daily and do something that moves you closer to fulfilling YOUR purpose. Part of the essence of a ‘me’ time is so that you can have time to do the things you may regret never doing if you were to watch a video of your life later!
4 – Time! The four letter word that marks a beginning and an end, time! Your time is your life. Today you are 20, in a blink you are 30, the next minute you find yourself posing for your 50th birthday pictures! Sisters, let’s begin to make time count by doing what counts! Only a relaxed and focus mind can do what counts and you get that from taking time out …’me time!
5 – Sanity! oh for sanity’s sake take some time off your typical routines, and just chill!
6 – A better you will emerge from getting ‘me time’, look at it this way: You are a first responder. An emergency can come up at any time, and you should be as well rested and restored as you’d want your ER doc to be. Taking care of yourself will make you a better parent and partner. You’ll be more fun to be around and more responsive to your family.
7 – One essential wisdom about life is announced every time a plane takes off, You would hear ”If the oxygen mask drops and you’re travelling with kids, put yours on first — before you help them.
Legions of women, single or married, childless or mothers, are ceaselessly fulfilling every obligation except the one to themselves. For your mental, physical, spiritual and psychological wellness, you sometimes just need to stop and attend to yourself first, some selfishness is needed!
